Water Conservation Tips
Here are just a few examples of how you can save water:
- Do not over water your lawn.
- Water plants with handheld hose or water can. If you do use a sprinkler for outdoor watering, make sure to position it properly to avoid watering sidewalks or drive ways.
- Water your lawn in the early morning or evening to avoid excess evaporation.
- If you have a swimming pool, use a cover. You can cut by 90 percent the loss of water by evaporation.
- Use a broom instead of a hose to clean walkways.
- Turn the water off when brushing your teeth or shaving.
- Take showers instead of baths.
- Make sure you have a full load before running your dishwasher or clothes washer.
- Fix leaking faucets and toilets. A leak of one drop per second can waste up to 2,400 gallons per year, and a leaky toilet can waste as much as 200 gallons per day.
- Install water saving fixtures and toilets.
It is easy to practice water conservation; just think before you turn on the tap. Besides preserving one of our natural resources, water conservation can also cause a significant decrease in your water bill. |
